With a population of around 2 million, East London is the most densely populated of London's sub regions. The East End is made up of the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and the City of London. Compared to West London, which has a reputation for being smart and sedate, East London is celebrated for its multi-cultural ethnic mix, its "Cockney" roots, and its vibrant nightlife. West Ham United is the area's principal football club and "The Hammers" are currently fighting North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur for ownership of the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Summer Games.
Man and Van Barking. Barking and Dagenham lies to the east of central London. Areas of interest within the borough include the ruined Anglo-Saxon Barking Abbey, built in 666AD. The Abbey is the venue for the Barking Carnival, taking place in May, which has an open-air concert of classical music as well as children's rides and a pageant.
